Let me share some secrets with you. Have you ever wondered how to to get the designer look in your home ? For some of us design and space planning comes naturally & for others its a chore. There are some basics that will help you make some interior design decisions. I will do a series of "how to get the look" over the next few weeks and show you how to get great results. Lets get started with your walls. WallsHang larger pictures or art alone and medium sized in pairs Photo credit /vogue.au Photo credit /Shift interiors Make a statement with a photo gallery wall. Select some frames and photos and group them to make a themed wall. This looks good with frames of the same colour or get a vintage look going with a mix of frames. This takes time so be patient. The easy bit is hanging them ! See more in the blog about hanging art and pictures. Hang a selection of small pictures or prints in groups / these can be letters ,poems, pictures postcards or your favorite birthday card, whatever you can find.
We all keep special things worth framing. We are all crazy about candles . The most important factor for me is safety. Both the candles and the holders or hurricanes should be fit for purpose. What do I mean by this? Here are some of my top tips for lighting up safely with candles.
1. Always use good quality long burning candles. The danish brands are brilliant with some 9" pillar candles burning for 80 hours . Broste are one of my favourites. They come in lots of colours and have a gorgeous rustic texture. Irish made Rathborne church candles are brilliant too. 2. Never put candles on a wooden plate or worse still some candle hurricanes have a wooden base so watch out for that. 3. Always put candles on a fire proof surface, slate, glass, metal or even ceramic plates are great . Avoid plastic as it could melt and if sitting on a wooden cill or table it will catch fire. 4. Candle hurricanes are my all time favourite. From tiny little t light holders to large glass hurricanes the candles are so safe in them. I use them all the time. Not only do they contain the candle flame safely they also reflect the candle light giving a much better effect than a single naked flame. They also prevent the easiest of accidents ie clothes catching fire, or candles being knocked over. 5. If candlesticks are your preferred option always buy ones with a sturdy base, preferably aluminium, copper or glass for safety. Some of the wooden ones look great so watch out for the ones with a metal plate to receive the candle or at least make sure your candles are long burning and never let them burn down to the end. 6. Save some money by putting a long burning 8 hour t light in the hollow center of a used pillar candle. Lots of long burning t-lights available in all the chain stores. These are generally safe as they are in their own foil holder. We all love mirrors. The amount of times we hear clients say "I've a thing about mirrors"! Over the years we have sourced and sold all shapes and sizes. Without them how would we leave the house in one piece? How would we take great selfies? What would the fashion bloggers do? We recently finished a project and put amazing mirrors in every room. Some rooms even got two. Our client loved them but reckoned he would have to live in the gym if he was going to be seeing so much of himself. Fact is that we get used to them and unless you stop and look they just become part of the overall decor & enhance the space as they are meant to. We all know that mirrors are great reflectors of light and make our space look bigger. I love using them on a wall where there is no window . Use small to medium sized mirrors in groups of two or three to create the illusion of little windows. Another great way to use mirrors is to place a large mirror opposite a window to reflect a view. Have a look at the images below for some mirror ideas and how to hang them. These venetian shaped mirrors are one of the hottest trends for 2016. They are featured on all the best interior websites eg houzz and pinterest Used singly in a bathrooms they look great too. Happy 2016 everyone. Im not going to write much in this blog but I am going to attempt my first video of 2016 . In fact my first video ever for the website. After a little bit of practicing over the holidays I think I can make a "fair" attemt. If I look terrified please forgive me. The jist of it is Thank you . The testimonials below are taken directly from houzz & the images are from our clients homes. These and many more testimonials are the reason we won our 2016 award for service from the world famous interior website houzz. A big thank you to our lovely clients for taking the time to do this. Just had my fabulous curtains fitted by wildthings. It was my first time getting professional handmade curtains and my poor Georgian house as been screaming for them for many years. Paula was able to guide me in my taste and keep me on track with her expert experience and knowledge of frabics and interiors. Her attention to detail was amazing and I really felt she got in to my head and made my ideas the most amazing reality!! I didn't want standard curtains I really wanted a bit of drama and luxury and when you walk in to my front door that's what you get.
Thank you Melissa x Hello everyone , Hello November, Hello January , Did I miss something? Oh don't worry we will all be reminded several times a day with supermarket music of the special month ahead. As it happens I have a few tips to get at least one job that gets put on the long finger sorted.Lets face it, we all mean to gather our favourite pictures and get frames but we don't all get around to actually doing it. Here are a few tips to get you started but first let me share a little joke. Getting started
First of all I would recommend that you collect the frames first . Decide where you want to put them , choose a colour scheme eg. all one colour or a mix / all the same shape or mixed. Once you have frames that you like you can decide what images to use & get them printed in the appropriate size. Then to arrange them. How to do that? Well let me show you. There are some rules even with mixed colours and sizes to arranging frames so here are some images to help you. Whats new and exciting in the blind world? The design shows are in full swing and there is excitement around the launch of new products for the Autumn & Winter season. Not to be outdone by London Fashion week the design industry has London design week and starting on 20th September we have Decorex in London. Here we Get to see the latest collections from the best interior design suppliers .
I just love London and although its busy, there are always places to find rest and relaxation . There are plenty of parks and little oasis of quiet and calm. We usually hop on London bikes and wander off to the various locations on our to do list. It is always preferable than negotiating tube stations in my opinion. My favourite places to visit once I have met our suppliers and ordered our new collections are the various interior stores that we don't have here in Ireland . if you are dressing your bed or looking for a new look this Autumn here are my recommendations . Are you wondering where to get some inspiration for your home? Instagram is the place to be . It is my favourite social media website at the moment . When I put up a post it can be seen all over the world. I will spend a little time explaining how it works in simple terms as I am known for my love hate relationship with technology and all things that require passwords. We recently spent a day trying to sort out various apps and itunes accounts prompted by this text .... ME. Whats my Itunes password please ? A. xxxxxxx ME. Thats not working, remember you changed it? A. What did I change it to? ME. If I knew that would I be *****y well asking you We had a good laugh about this and got down to basics to get it all sorted. I have always left all the techy stuff to others hence my complete reliance on others to install things and "get me started". Once I'm started I will give it my very best shot and learn all I can to master the task . T Summer brings a refreshing change from normal everyday routine. It is a time for both calm and chaos out of which new ideas are born. We all hope for things to look forward to, festivals, concerts and holidays. We've just been to see Fleetwood Mac in Dublin. They remind me of summers spent listening over and over to their music. I put some pictures on instagram of my hair wrapped in flowers before we headed off. A friend from school said she reckoned I had officially lost the plot. My theory is your never too old to dress up and get in the spirit of things, although I did get some funny looks from some elegantly dressed ladies in the restaurant before we went. If you are on instagram please have a look @ Wildthings Interiors. Im only getting the hang of it so if you have any hints or tips please let me know. Its party time. Summer is here at last. Although we dont have beach weather its great to get out and enjoy all the festivals. This is a picture taken last Saturday at the Dubai Duty free derby at the Curragh racecourse. Im in the pink dress on the right. While getting prepared and deciding what to wear I realised that I choose my clothes very much the way I like my home... that is full of colour . I also love flowers and gardening although as time goes on I prefer it when the garden looks well but someone else does the hard work. My point is... interiors , fashion and garden design they all belong together. If you like pink chances are you will wear it , accessorise at home with it and most likely buy pink plants .Let me show you a few interesting images to back up my theory. By the way we didn't win best dressed but we didnt hang out with all the beautiful ladies in the judging area . Congratulations to the finalists and indeed the winner who took away a prize worth 20 k The judges Bairbre Power, Amanda Byram & Melanie Morris had their work cut out choosing a winner. What I wore..... The dress was the only new piece and was really comfortable with cape sleeves . My jewellry was my aunts and was left to my Mom. The hat was my late mothers with another brooch from my aunts collection at the back .The jacket was a french label from design platform bought 10 years ago and the umbrella and gloves are by chantel thomas , again 10 years old . Now for my theory The Interior ... |
