Are you looking for ideas and the best options for custom made curtains and blinds ? I'm sure there are many questions that come to mind and here are a few of the most common ones. What rail to use ? Curtain rail v pole ? Traditional or modern style curtains or other options ? Curtain finish ? Should they be ceiling to floor ? Which to use privacy blinds or privacy curtains ? Curtain fabric selection ?. Let me help you answer a few of these questions. The picture above shows custom made , single pleat curtains on a flat profile black 19mm curtain rail . We chose to hang these interlined curtains on a wall mounted rail as the space between the top of the window and the ceiling was more than 30cm and to hang them from the ceiling would not have been as good visually. The proportions here look good and the positioning of the rail fitted covering 2/3 of the space was by far the better option . Incidentally flat profile curtain rails are very cool at the moment and suited perfectly here with a luxurious yet industrial style vibe . A more traditional home might opt for a pole with rings . There are so many types available we always help choose the most suitable . This rail would be considered a bit of a hybrid . A cross between a rail and a pole . It has no rings as a traditional pole would have . Instead it has an internal hidden rail with runners to receive the pins. It can have wave runners or standard runners . These curtains have single pleats that look like wave so are fitted with standard curtain rail runners . This kitchen fitted with green units and again industrial style details, needed shading solutions for the light filled south facing windows . Of course we all love bright sunshine but practically to shade the light we used sunscreen blinds to solve that problem . These filter the light without darkening the room . When they are not in use they fit discreetly into the recess space. When the blinds are down the room is still bright and there is still a screened view to the outside . To soften the space we used laundered light grey linen in a wave finish . These were fitted each side of the window on top fix discreet, curved profile rails . Often it is only necessary to dress each side of the window as shown . Full curtains were not necessary here . When considering kitchen spaces think about practicality too . My advice is blinds first, preferably motorised and curtains or blinds to dress the space where necessary . Some clients prefer wall to wall top fixed voile and then we use sheer voiles rather than linen. In this single room we used a sheer blind to control the light and give privacy during the day. A blackout Roman blind with a leather trim dresses the window for night and it looks great too ! Our signature style often involves trimming curtains or romans with a fabric border and in this case we used a leather border across the top . You can see that curtains wouldn't suit on this small window and a Roman was by far most suited . Here in this master bedroom the narrow windows are more suited to Roman blinds than curtains. We also used sunscreen roller blinds (not Shown). These are used for privacy and can be left up when not in use . The romans are custom made in linen with a green bottom border to compliment the accent colours in this bedroom . Every room and window requires careful consideration when choosing window dressing . Larger windows generally need some sort of curtains or indeed shutters which we haven't mentioned ( more on that another day ). Roman blinds are more suited on small to average size windows. Personally I'm not a fan of really wide roman blinds even when they are motorised . Roller blinds offer great functionality and solve many problems . From sunscreen to blackout there are so many options and fabrics . Motorised and manual options make roller blinds the most versatile solution many cases .
