We are privileged to be in different homes every day and get to see inside some really creative spaces.
The Irish by nature are full of personality and we surround and indulge our love of family and friends at every opportunity.  This is often reflected in our homes and lately I have seen some homes with amazing collections of art and photography in Dublin.
Other homes have collections of musical memorabilia and some are sport mad and it is clear from the minute you walk through the door. The interior design of your ideal home should reflect your personality and not one dictated by whats available in showrooms.

We in Ireland have been exposed lately to a very sterile, bland brand of decorating. Most showrooms and showhouse display are the same. Same curtains and sofas, same furniture, same lighting. I get that they are playing it safe but a little bit of colour used cleverly goes a long way.
Most of us can see beyond that and we are lucky to work daily with clients who embrace their individuality and create unique spaces reflecting their lifestyle and personality.

Here are some tips to create your Ideal home.

Wildthings Sofa
A comfortable sofa is top of the list and key to creating a cosy home. Dress it up with colourful cushions to suit your taste. Custom made sofas with feather or dacron  wrapped seat cushions retain their shape and keep your sofa in pristine condition. Use trays  for drinks to prevent spillages on carpets and upholstery and keep everything looking like new. Side tables or travel trunks with lift up lids are great for storing newspapers, magazines , games or even the remote control to keep your living space clutter free.

Inject colour and personality with art. Group books and display your favourites on a side table. Book shelves or built in units are ideal for displaying your favourite things. The bar cart is back and is not just for drinks, display candles or anything you like on it.. Brass accessories are back so hunt and gather or search the attic. You might be surprised at what you find.

Use a selection of different frames to display your photos, cards , maps and memorobilia. How out framing the programme from your favourite show or concert ?
Style your coffee table with a little posy of flowers, candles and a bowl or tray to collect little things.

Kids rooms are a favourite of mine to decorate. It is easy to see their personalities from their books and toys . Look out for shelving, baskets and trunks to display and sort everything. Cosy blankets are a must have and blackout blinds or curtains for a good nights rest.

Home offices need never be boring and are a perfect place to indulge our personalities. Surround your workspace with the colours and objects you love. The addition of a plant gives a homly feel to the space, a comfortable chair and your good to go .

Mixing old with new shows great confidence and reflects your unique style . Play with lighting and introduce colour. Keeping the bones of your space neutral creates a calm space and allows your choice of accessories and favourite things to shine.

Are you living in your ideal home ?  Do you know what your ideal home is ?

Be as unique daring and as exciting as you want to be .

But most of all live in your ideal home.
